An overview of Tohoku Foreign Language & Tourism College
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Multi-Purpose English Course (Two years)

This course is designed to teach students a working knowledge of English suitable for application in many different vocations. Lessons offered include the EIKEN qualifying exam (STEP Test), Tourism English and Business English.
Global Education Course for university transfer (Two years)
Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution can complete the first two years of their work at TFLTC. This course prepares each student for transferring to his or her choice of university.
Interpretation and Translation Course (Two years)
This course prepares students for professional and semi-professional interpretation and translation work while it also provides them with knowledge and skills necessary to seek employment opportunities and to develop careers in this field.
English Instructor Course (Two years)
This course trains students who wish to be English teachers for children.
Students are instructed in teaching methodology and language acquisition, and practical work experience at a pre-school will be conducted. Other subjects offered include Child Psychology and Translation of Children’s Literature.
Bilingual Chinese Course (Two years)
Students are expected to be proficient in English and Chinese in business situations after completing this course. Subjects offered include Basics of the Chinese Language, Listening, Translation and Chinese Culture. An overseas training excursion to China is also available.
Super English Course (Two years)
This course is designed to serve students who already have a good command of English. To help students realize their full potential, Super English gives the maximum opportunity to listen, speak, read, and write English at a university level. With the exception of EIKEN and TOEIC, all lessons are conducted in English.
INTERNATIONAL TOURISM DEPARTMENT
International Tourism Course (Two years)
In this course, students study travel-related subjects and English in order to pass the examination for the Certified Travel General Supervisor. On-the-job training will be conducted at various overseas locations.
International Airline Course (Two years) – Open to female students only
This course is for students who would like to work in the airline industry, whether as a ground staff member, flight attendant, or in any other position. Practical skills are emphasized. Subjects include Job Interview Training, Air Cargo Handling and Personal Grooming. Information and training sessions are conducted at the local airport. An overseas training trip with an international airline is also available.
International Hotel Business Course (Two years)
This course trains students to perform well in the hotel industry. Upon graduation the subjects taught in this course will help the student find employment as a hotel lobby attendant, a receptionist, or a hotel manager.
Lessons include Hotel English, Table Waiting, and Housekeeping.
ONE-YEAR CONCENTRATION DEPARTMENT
Practical English Course (One year)
This course is designed to serve college or university graduates who want to acquire an advanced level of English necessary for conducting business in an international environment.
JAPANESE DEPARTMENT
Regular Japanese Course (Two years)
Our Japanese Department provides a wide range of courses of varying length to suit the skill level and goal of every student.
